Fazıl Önder Academy is an initiative of the Union of Cypriots. It promotes knowledge concerning issues related to and emerging from self-determination, self-governance, sovereignty, security, and diplomacy, with particular consideration in socio-cultural issues.

As Union of Cypriots, we organize events and seminars from lecturers who are experts in their field, open not only to our members but also to the public.

With Fazıl Önder Academy and its activities, we aim to achieve broadening the perspective of our community in matters and concepts that effect the current status quo of the Cyprus issue, while understanding examples of other nations’ self-determination and independence struggles.

Fazıl Önder is one of the most important figures of the Cypriot struggle for independence. He was a journalist and the owner of “İnkilapçı” (Revolutionary) newspaper, which was shut down by the British colonial rule because of its advocacy of Cypriotism.

He worked as a general secretary of Turkish-Cypriot Education Club and he assisted in the establishment of “Pedagogy Academy” and “Agriculture School” in Cyprus.

Fazıl Önder’s beliefs and activities for keeping the Cypriot communities together, fight for the working class and his works against all imperialist powers, led to his violent assassination by Turkey-controlled “Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT)”, on 24 May 1958. Today, he continues to be a symbol for democracy, peace and the Cypriot independence struggle.
